Sun, sea and breeze for Keelboat racing at the 304th Royal Cork Yacht Club At Home regatta
The 304th Royal Cork Yacht Club At Home was held last weekend. The weather Gods obviously enjoy the At Home as much as we do, and the sun shone with a lovely 14 knot Easterly breeze on Saturday. Over 30 Royal Club Yacht Club boats took to the start lines and all 4 classes, Spin 1, Spin 2, White sail 1 and White sail 2 enjoyed two fantastic races of varying distances and directions, something for everyone! What a day!
When the sailors returned to shore the postmortems and permutations were teased over some lubrication and a superb BBQ, followed by a brilliant night of craic agus ceoil in the bar.
Sunday morning was a little greyer, as were some of the skippers and crew after the festivities the night before. Once again, the fleet headed out past Roches point for one final race. Thanks to our race management team of Kevin Lane, Richard Leonard and Margaret Lane for another brilliant race in a lighter South Westerly breeze.
When all was said and done, the results were in, and we had our champions for 2024. Andy Jenkins and family stole the show in White Sail class 2, winning IHS and IRC, in class 1, Pat Vaughan’s Aramis won IHS and Ronan Twomey took the honour’s in IRC aboard Rosmarina. The O’Neill family were flying on their J24, Legal Alien and won Spin 2 IRC and Echo and in Spin 1, Paul and Deirdre Tingle came 1st in Echo and Michael McCann’s Etchells, Don’t Dilly Dally took the top prize.
Congratulations to all of our winners and competitors, thanks again to our Race Officer’s, Michael for doing the results, Ann, Amy and all the staff and the army of volunteers in the club that make these events a success.
