A busy weekend for keelboat racing at the Royal Cork!

Last weekend was one of our busiest weekends for Keelboat racing this Summer! 

Our Summer series continued on Thursday and Friday night and we’re nearly halfway through the final league of our Summer series. Westerlies once again dominated our weather and on Thursday night, Ria Lyden was back with a bang and took 1^st place in IRC and ECHO Spin on “Ellida”. Ian Hickey’s “Cavatina” continues to dominate in IRC White Sail by taking a hattrick of 1^st places in the league so far. Paul O’Shea’s Jeanneau 36, “Elegance” is also on a roll by winning the first 3 races in ECHO WS. Well done everybody!

On Friday night, the RCYC teamed up with CSC for their annual Titanic trophy race. There was fantastic turnout of 23 boats with 16 of those coming from the Royal Cork! This race was for the White Sail Echo class, and it was great spectacle as the fleet sailed up and down in front of the Promenade in Cobh. The RCYC dominated the race with Ronan Twomey on “Rosmarina”, finishing 3rd, Jimmy Nyhan’s “Outrigger” came 2^nd but the Titanic trophy went to Fiona and Jack Young on “North Star”. Well done all and thanks to CSC.

We also held our Friday night IHS league alongside the Titanic trophy race. On the night our race winner was Frank Caul & John Molloy’s Grand Soleil “Prince of Tides”.

The Cobh Regatta continued over the weekend and on Sunday our fleet headed across the harbour once again to compete in the CSC Regatta race. It was a beautiful day with light Westerly winds and there was a touch of summer in the air! Once again, it was a good day for the Royal Cork, with IMP winning Class 1 Kites with the Jones family coming in 2^nd place following their recent success in Cowes. In Class 2, Miss Whiplash came 2^nd but it was Sean Hanley in “Luas” who took home the beautiful Spit Lighthouse trophy. In White Sail, Jimmy Nyhan and his young crew took home the silver with the Murphy family finishing in 2^nd place.
