Courtmacsherry cruise 2024

Last weekend the Cruising committee organised a cruise in company to Courtmacsherry via Oysterhaven.
Eight boats departed Crosshaven on Friday afternoon bound for Oysterhaven. The wind was westerly blowing 20 kts but battling this on the Friday evening gave us a great platform for the weekend. Some boats anchored and some had a mooring for the night. To spend a night in Oysterhaven is fantastic and a great experience.

On Saturday morning we set off at 09:00 for Courtmacsherry in order to be there in time to get over the sand bar at the entrance to the Bay. You can enter 2 hours each side of high tide. With light winds we motored across Kinsale bay around the old Head of Kinsale and onto Courtmacsherry. In Courtmac there is a pontoon to tie up to, which is a great facility. With 8 boats arriving at the sometime, we caused a stir, but after tying up, a lovely afternoon was had exploring the local walks and visiting Cafes and Bars.  That evening we had dinner in The Lifeboat Inn. A great restaurant with fantastic food. As there was a local festival on at that time the place was busy and a great atmosphere on the streets.  The following morning most boats departed around 10:30 for the trip back to Crosshaven. Some stayed in Courtmac and some called to Kinsale for an extra night to make the most of the lovely weather.  This was a great short cruise with some new faces joining in. They are a great way to explore the coastline harbours and destinations on the water, while in company of other sailors. There will be more of these cruises this year, so stay tuned and hope to see you on the next one.
