Two people want to helm the same boat in a series - by: Mark Elkington

Hi
This can happen if you want to share a boat - but both get points allocated to who was actually sailing it in each race.  The SYC rules do not allow you to aggregate both sets of results - a competitor is defined by a class of boat and a helm's name.  The rules do allow an individual to sail two boats of the same class and have their results aggregated across a series - unless (there is always an unless!) the two boats of the same class have different handicaps (e.g. a standard Merlin and a wooden Merlin)
So here is how to handle those two scenarios using the sign on system.

Two helms want to share a boat and have their individual results aggregated separately ...
Assuming one helm is already registered on the system - the person who wants to share needs to access the signon on system and using the menu at the top right of the opening screen - pick the Register New Boat option.  Complete the form specifying the class, sail number and (sharing) helm's name (and crew name if relevant).  Each time either of you try to sign on with that boat you will be asked to pick who is sailing it before proceeding to enter the race.

One helm who wants to sail two boats of the same class
Assuming the second boat has a different sail number - start the sign on procedure in the normal way.  Pick the boat by typing in your other boat's sail number.  Then click the CHANGE option - change the sail number to the one you will be using for this race.  Save the change.  The complete the entry process in the normal way - click ENTER.

Please remember this - will save Michael Bagge and I a lot of post race sorting out.

thanks
Mark
