0 10

The 2021 Irish Team Racing Association (ITRA) National Championships took place this past weekend, 20 & 21 November, at the Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC) in Crosshaven.

With 18 teams entered from Under 18 to alumni college level, the event provided a fantastic and competitive two days of team racing in Cork Harbour.

After an early finish to Day 2 of the event due to the tricky tides and high winds, TU Dublin Sailing Club were crowned Team Racing National Champions for 2021! Among the winning team’s helms was Niamh Henry is the second ever female helm to win the ITRA Nationals. The first and last female to win was 53 years ago in 1968!

Commenting on the event Niamh said “The ITRA Nationals was really enjoyable so a massive thank you to RCYC and the ITRA committee for organising such a great event.” She also wanted to say “a big thank you to all the other competitors and [her] teammates who made the event a great success. Also, shoutout to TUD sailing coach Mark Hassett for sharing potentially too much knowledge!”
