Briefing: RNLI Pursuit / Rough & Tumble Trophy

0 11

The annual RNLI pursuit race for dinghies and the Rough and Tumble trophy race for multihulls are both scheduled for this Sunday - lets hope the forecast moderates somewhat. This article is a short reminder of how these races will be organised.

But first a reminder that these events are designed to raise money for the amazing RNLI. There will be an entry fee for all boats (except juniors) of 5 pounds - you can pay with cash (correct change only) or by card at the galley kiosk - BEFORE the race please

Start Sequence
The first start (yellow light) will be the multihulls on their own course. Three minutes after that the junior fleet (green light) will start, sailing the pursuit race course - and will be finished after one or two laps on the club line. Approximately six minutes after the junior fleet starts we will begin the start sequence for the pursuit race using the yellow light for the first class (Laser Radial / Solo).  The race box will be displaying the start of the NEXT class - so if "02" is being displayed the next start is for classes starting at 2 minutes (i.e. Enterprise) - see start time list below.  Any boats that are OCS will be signalled in the normal way.

Start Line
It is possible that the multihulls will be lapping during the pursuit starts. We will therefore be dividing the club line into two parts for the pursuit race starts using the J buoy to keep the starters and the lappers separated - as shown below. The start line will be the line between the club flag pole and the J buoy.  if you pass between the J buoy and the shore when completing a lap you will be scored "course not sailed" (NCS). The J buoy will be removed once everyone has started.
