COVID-19 UPDATE: CLYC DINGHY SAILING RESTART PLAN

0 10

Wednesday 27th May, 2020

Over the past number of weeks, the CLYC Committee established a COVID-19 Team to consider our return to sailing and we have been working in the background to formulate a suitable plan and procedures to enable us to Restart Dinghy Sailing in the near future. This team is made up of myself, Ian Finnegan and Catherine McDonagh (COVID- 19 Safety Officer).

Based on on Government Guidelines and RYA advice, there are many requirements that the committee have been working to facilitate in order to make our return as safe as possible for all of our members. This includes changes to the way we use our club facilities, how we approach the rigging of our boats, launching and even protocol while on the water. There are many procedures to put in place to protect us all and we appreciate your patience as we work through this carefully over the next week.

STEP 1

On Sunday 31st May, the club grounds and facilities will be closed to all members as we will be carrying out a Pilot run of our intended plan. We are doing this to test and tweak our procedures in advance of moving forward to allowing all members to return to Dinghy sailing. I would ask that you do not attend the club on Sunday.

STEP 2

Provided that the Pilot is successful, the Committee will issue notice to members early next week of our intention to recommence Dinghy Sailing for all members on Sunday 7th June. This will be for over 18s initially and with a restricted number of participants. We will issue full details of the plan and procedures next week, along with a compulsory registration form for those intending to take part.

STEP 3

As Government guidelines evolve over the weeks and months ahead we will continue to review our plans on a weekly basis, with a view to restarting Cruiser racing, as well as activities for under 18s when it is suitable and safe to do so. We appreciate that everyone is eager to get back on the water, but we would ask that you bare with us as we continue to formulate an approach that is intended to keep you and your family as safe as possible.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact Ian, Catherine or myself in relation to our plans.

Take care and stay safe!
