29er Chair

0 6

Prior to the Youth Nationals Sue Ormerod, as per our constitution, informed our Training Officer (Mark James) and myself as Treasurer, that she wanted to stand down as the Class Chair on 31 May. Sue has been the Chair for the last 2 years and has done a huge amount of work to lead the development of the UK class into one of the most successful and vibrant youth fleets in Europe. There are many highlights that I could mention but one that stands out particularly was our successful bid to host the 29er World Championships at WPNSA next year. I am sure that you would join me in thanking Sue for everything that she has done for the class and hope that we get an opportunity to thank her personally over the summer.

The good news is that Chris Evans, our current Training Officer, has offered to step into the breach and was appointed Chair from 31 May by the committee at our meeting at the Youth Nationals. Those of you who know Chris will be aware that he brings a wealth of experience to the role as a sailor and race officer and class administrator from his work with us and the Optimist committee.

Chris has confirmed that he will be standing for re-election as Chair at the AGM which will be held after sailing at the HISC Grand Prix. The successful operation of the class is completely dependent on all its volunteers and that starts with the committee. As usual a number of people will be moving on this summer so, if you are interested in getting involved, please contact Chris. In particular, we are looking for a new Safety Officer. We also place great importance on the input from the sailor reps that we have on the committee and will be looking for new people to get involved there as well.

One again, a huge thank you to Sue for your enormous contribution to the 29er class and good luck to Chris in the new role.

Peter Gordon
29er UK Class Treasurer
