Handling Wind Shifts When Close Hauled on a Laser
Hi everyone,
I’ve had my Laser for a couple of months and have logged about 50 hours in various conditions. I’m comfortable in light wind, but things get challenging once it’s 10+ knots.
When I’m close-hauled and the wind shifts—say from 45° to 90°—and the boat starts to heel more than I can counter, what should my first reaction be? Should I steer up with the rudder to adjust my angle, or ease the mainsheet and maintain my heading?
