Main halyard advice

Hello. Recently bought a 2001 Catalina 14.2 in beautiful condition. Only one issue. Raising the mainsail, the halyard wants to get jammed in the groove.at the top and if I continue to pull, more and more if the halyard jams in the groove. I've tried pushing the line into the groove so half the halyard is inside the mast, loose but it still jams. Am I missing a part at the end of the groove to prevent jamming?? To me it's a poor design. I think there should be a second small wheel...
