Trouble Stepping Carbon mast on 14.2 EXPO

I just got a 2004 14.2 Expo. I watched all the videos I could including ones showing how easy it was to step the mast. But I am struggling. I don't feel comfortable standing on the foredeck on the trailer. It looks like i need to stand in the cockpit behind the hatch. But the boom is in the way. Tomorrow I try to remove the boom . Does anyone have any success with another method other than standing on the foredeck or lifting it straight up and setting it down while on the trailer.
