Is an analog compass still a worthwhile tool or wait and save for a digital one?

I've been a casual Laser sailor for several years and I'm just starting to get into some club level racing now and want to start improving my skills as a racer. I know that the digital compasses are the golden standard now but they are simply out of the budget for me currently. I've found a basically brand new Ritchie XP-98W tactician compass for sale that I can get pretty cheap and I can easily 3D print a mount for it to straddle the control lines like all the old school analog mounting...
