Help Outhaul Adjustment with Original Hardware + Cool Photo

I'm a novice who bought their first 80s laser last summer to learn sailing. My boat has original hardware and I've rigged it according to a couple videos I managed to find. I'm pretty happy with everything except the outhaul which I have terminating on the boom cleat as opposed to feeding down the mast as the modern iterations logically do.
