Retrofit a hatch onto 1992 Mod 2?

Has anybody had success in replacing the Catalina Capri 14.2 Mod 2 glass fiber bow insert with a hatch to gain more storage space? Any advice? I love to go sail camping and really need more storage space. Thank you.
