Pontypridd v Llanelli Wanderers – Matchday Preview

0 10

This Saturday 8th November Pontypridd RFC welcome Llanelli Wanderers RFC to Sardis Road for an Admiral Premiership match, kick off will be 2:30pm.

This weekend’s match against the Wanderers heralds a first ever meeting between the two clubs. The men from Carmarthenshire are competing in the Welsh Premiership for the first time in their history after topping last season’s Championship West after winning 22 of their 24 matches, accumulating an impressive 105 points in the process.

Llanelli Wanderers were formed in 1951, five years after a group of ex-servicemen set up YMCA RFC in the town. The club have had different homes before settling at their current Stradey Park ground in 2003.

Ponty will be looking to regroup and bounce back this Saturday following defeat away to Neath by 26 points to 20 two days ago. The loss at The Gnoll was just the Valley Commandos’ first league defeat of the season. Pontypridd did earn a losing bonus point for their efforts and remain top of the league standings but are now just one point ahead of Merthyr, and three ahead of Beddau who both have a game in hand.

Llanelli Wanderers currently occupy 8th place in the table having won two league matches so far this season – away against Narberth by 22 points to 14 last month, and at home against Bargoed by a 31-24 scoreline on Saturday. It’s also worth noting that the Wanderers also ran Beddau close away from home, losing 33-26 on 18th October, and also find themselves in the semi finals of the Welsh Cup where they will play Neath.

The Admiral Welsh Premiership table, accurate as of 3/11/2025.

This Saturday’s match will be Ponty’s last for four weeks! The Valley Commandos’ next outing will be against Cardiff Met at Sardis on Saturday 6th December, so with that in mind the team will want to send the Ponty faithful away on a high until then – make sure you pack Sardis out on Saturday #PontyFans.
