Gavin Dacey joins the Pontypridd Coaching Team

0 10

Pontypridd RFC are very pleased to announce that former centre Gavin Dacey has joined the Club’s coaching team, having been appointed as our new backs and skills coach with immediate effect.

Gavin is already a name synonymous with the club after scoring 52 tries in 257 appearances during an illustrious eleven-year playing career with the Valley Commandos. A former Ponty vice-captain and Wales 7s international renowned for his silky running at outside centre, Dacey won multiple Premiership titles and Welsh Cups during his time at Sardis Road between 2005 to 2016.

Dacey left the club in 2016 to return to his hometown club Merthyr, and after hanging up his boots went on to coach the Ironmen during a successful period for them before more recently being part of the Brecon coaching team that saw the rise of the Parc De Pugh men into the Welsh Premiership last season.

Recognised as one of Pontypridd’s most decorated players whilst being part of one of our ‘Golden ages’ between 2010 to 2016, Gavin has now returned to the Club to add his knowledge and expertise to our current coaching team.

The make-up of our coaching structure is as follows:

  • Kristian Parker – Head Coach
  • Gavin Dacey – Backs/Skills Coach
  • Garyn Smith – Skills Coach
  • Iestyn Harris – Skills Coach
  • Stuart Rix – Team Manager

On returning to Ponty as part of our coaching set up, Gavin said: “I’m hugely excited and privileged to join the coaching staff at Pontypridd RFC. My time at the club as a player was an unbelievable period in my rugby career and it’s a real honour to be coming back to the club as a coach.

I’m really looking to working with a young and talented group of coaches and players, and I’m eager to get out on the training ground with the boys and back in front of the fans at Sardis Road.

There is inevitably, and rightly so, a high expectation of performance and results when you are representing Pontypridd RFC and I’m fully committed to adding value to the club as the season progresses.”

Pontypridd Head Coach Kristian Parker commented: “It’s great to get Dacey on board, not only does he bring experience but he’s a proven winner and a Ponty legend.

When I knew Gav was available it was a no brainer, as he is only going to strengthen our existing coaching team.

With the coaching staff still currently playing I knew we needed another set of eyes and I am very happy to get it done in a timely fashion.”

Croeso nôl, Gav!
