Coaches Update | Alex Codling & Seán Cronin
Alex Codling starts his new role as Munster Rugby Forwards Coach this week following the completion of his commitments with Ireland at the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
Codling joined Munster Rugby last November as Forwards Coach Consultant and worked with the province throughout the remainder of the 2024/25 season, alongside his commitments with the Ireland senior women’s squad.
He was part of the Ireland coaching team for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup with the side just edged out by France in the quarter-finals earlier this month.
Codling has previously been Head Coach of Premiership club Newcastle Falcons and has also coached with the senior England men’s team, Harlequins and Oyonnax.
Munster Rugby can also confirm that Seán Cronin joined the senior men’s coaching team this summer as Scrum Coach, in addition to his role as Provincial Talent Coach.
Cronin, who earned 72 caps for Ireland, came up through the Munster Rugby Academy and made two appearances for the province before moving to Connacht in 2008.
He went on to enjoy an outstanding playing career with Connacht, Leinster and Ireland.
After retiring from playing in 2022, he quickly transitioned into coaching and has been progressing through the Munster Rugby coaching pathway since 2023.
He was appointed Provincial Talent Coach in January 2024 and was Head Coach of the Munster U18 Schools team for the Interprovincial Championships this summer.
Cronin has been working with the team since the pre-season training programme began in July.
