Mini-to-Mortimer Day – A big success

At noon, a sea of black and white filled the clubhouse as our Mini and Junior players gathered for a warm welcome from Norm, and 1st XV Head Coach, George Thomas. They outlined the day ahead before everyone got stuck into the first task: age groups pairing up with senior players to write down the values that make Luctonians who we are.

 

With the clubhouse buzzing, the action moved outside onto the pitches. Each age group had its own dedicated area, where senior players ran fun and engaging training sessions focused on skills, teamwork, and enjoyment. Laughter and excitement filled the air as Minis, Juniors, and Seniors mixed together, all united by the game we love.

 

One highlight was the speed challenge run by our Strength & Conditioning Coach, Jeremy, giving every child a chance to test themselves in a fun competition.

 

After the activities, players and parents returned to the clubhouse for a Q&A session with members of the 1st XV, hosted by Norm. The questions sparked great conversations about rugby, teamwork, and what it takes to step up to the senior level and beyond.

 

We were also delighted to welcome back a special guest, former Luctonian Seb Atkinson, who now plays for Gloucester and earned his first England cap this summer. Seb joined in with games on the pitch and shared his experiences during the Q&A, speaking warmly about his time at Mortimer Park and the important role Luctonians played in his rugby journey.

 

The afternoon was a huge success, and we’d like to thank everyone who came along and made our first Mini-to-Mortimer Day so memorable. We’re already looking forward to building on this initiative and continuing to strengthen the pathway from Mini-to-Mortimer.
