REDSFEST a huge success

0 8

Accolades have been pouring over the last 10 days for a fabulous REDSFEST day on Saturday 24th May. A huge thanks goes out to all our volunteers who helped make it such a success, but in particular to the REDSFEST committee who put in a massive amount of work to make it such a success.

Thanks also to all who sponsored kegs for the beer festival (there were 23 kegs in total) and to the event’s main sponsor GreenFox Energy, as well as all those who attended.

A late change had to be made to the structure of the Tournament with late withdrawals of two teams. As a result the tournament was played in a truncated round robin, with each competitive team scheduled for 3 matches. The non-tournament BaBaas team (aka Reds 2s) played 2 matches to balance the fixtures.

The 7s Tournament entertained the crowds and it was great to see teams travel to the town from far afield to take part. We had teams from Dumfries, GHK (Glasgow), Stoneyhill (Musselburgh) and Murrayfield Wanderers (Edinburgh), in addition to the two home teams (Reds and Babas) and a composite Misfits side.

Here are the results:

Murrayfield Wanderers  14 – 31  GHK

Misfits 12 – 24 Stoneyhill (Musselburgh)

BaBaas 7 – 35 GHK

Linlithgow 57 – 0 Dumfries

Murrayfield Wanderers 10 – 24 Stoneyhill

Linlithgow 43 – 0 Misfits

Dumfries 12 – 17 BaBaas

Misfits 35 – 26 GHK

Linlithgow 28 – 14 Murrayfield Wanderers

Dumfries 12 – 33 Stoneyhill

The resultant league table determined the initial positioning, with teams finishing in the top four places contesting the Cup semi-finals, while teams finishing fifth and sixth played off for the Plate Trophy.

  1. Linlithgow 3 wins (128 points for)
  2. Stoneyhill 3 wins (81 points for)
  3. GHK 2 wins
  4. Misfits 1 win
  5. Murrayfield Wanderers 0 wins (38 points for)
  6. Dumfries 0 wins (24 points for)

Plate Final (5th v 6th)

Murrayfield Wanderers 26 -12 Dumfries

Linlithgow 26 – 14 Misfits

Stoneyhill 19 – 16 GHK

The Reds 7s were brilliant all afternoon, winning all 5 games to claim the RedsFest Trophy. They are pictured below:

Four teams took part in this festival, which was played just before the 7s Tournament kicked off. Each team played the other over two 8 minute halves. For the record:

BATS (Broughton, Accies, Trinity)    Won 3

Linlithgow Vintage Reds Won 2

Murrayfield Wanderers Won 1

Forth Valley Fossils Participated in 3

Thanks to all who participated and to our referees in particular – Aidan Mochrie, Oscar Davies, Jack Frame and Euan Mochrie.
