Brecon v Pontypridd – Match Preview

On Saturday 29th March Pontypridd RFC head to Parc de Pugh to play Brecon RFC in the Admiral Premiership, kick-off is at 2:30pm.

The two teams’ first ever encounter was earlier this season on Saturday 16th November at Sardis Road. There wasn’t much between the two sides as the match approached the 50-minute mark that afternoon, with a James Dixon penalty narrowing the scores to 17-11. But as the match approached the hour Garyn Daniel burrowed over to put clear daylight between the teams before Ponty cut loose in the final quarter scoring some cracking tries to eventually seal a 43-11 win.

Pontypridd will be looking to get back on the winning trail this week to keep their Premiership title ambitions alive. But that will require a full 80-minute performance against 5th placed Brecon who have won four out of their last five Premiership matches including winning the last three on the bounce.

TEAM NEWS –

There are four changes and a positional switch to the XV that started last Saturday’s match against Merthyr, and there’s also a new face on the bench who could make his Ponty debut.

In the forwards there’s rotation amongst the props with Ben Drew and Garyn Daniel coming into the starting line-up.

In the backs there are returns to the team for Lucus Welch at scrum-half and Joe Davies on the wing – Joe’s selection sees Dale Stuckey move from wing to fullback.

On the bench the only new face not involved in last week’s matchday squad is young backrower Ethan Evans. Ethan is on permit from the Cardiff Rugby Academy and will make his debut if he comes on during the contest.

Unavailable for selection is Cai James who is still on the road to recovery from his current injury.
