Tigers are Touch World Cup medalists!

Our touch rugby team are medal winners!

Cheltenham Tigers Touch club were represented by 8 individuals (5 players + 3 coaches) at the 2024 Touch World Cup in Nottingham across multiple divisions. With 2 individuals being selected as non traveling reserves.

X30s, M40s, M50s, M55s all took Bronze medals with the M45s and M35s coming up narrowly short in their medal quests.

Over the course of the week each division battled through pool stages leading to finals day and the medal matches on Sunday 21st July.

X30s, Marcus Evans & Ryan Attwood (head coach), had to work hard to defeat Germany 8-6 in a Bronze medal contest (a team they lost to in the pool stage).

M40s, Ollie Sills, put in a very strong performance against NZ (the eventual champions) in the semi-final ending a couple down before defeating Wales in the Bronze medal match.

M50s, Ian Spencer, had to overcome 2 drop off victories to claim their bronze medal.

M55s, Adrian Danks (assistant coach), easily made it to the preliminary final before going down to NZ with a spirited performance.

We also had James Mears within the M45s squad, Aaron Treagus & Matt Jaynes (assistant coach) within the M35s who battled hard throughout but didn’t quite make it onto the podium.

Lucy Richens, W40s, and Dez Kyte, M45s were selected within the England set up as non traveling reserves for their divisions.

Our club sent a team of supporters up on the finals weekend to cheer on their clubmates and add to the incredible atmosphere around the ground at Nottingham Riverside Complex.

This marked the 10th TWC, seeing around 4,000 participants across 187 teams from 39 nations compete. It’s a huge achievement for our tigers to get selected to represent their country, let alone walk away with medals round their necks!!
