St Albans fixture added to Ponty’s pre-season schedule
We are very pleased to announce that St Albans RFC have been added to Pontypridd RFC’s 2024/25 pre-season itinerary and they will visit Sardis Road on Saturday 31st August.
The kick-off for the senior match will be the traditional 2:30pm slot, but like the Valley Commandos’ match away at Tenby a few weeks prior the 31st will also see a double-header with the two clubs’ Youth sides playing as well. The kick-off time for Ponty Youth and St Albans Youth will be 12:15pm.
Pontypridd and St Albans, or The Buns as they are more affectionately known, have never met in the 15-man form of the game. In more recent times the Tremorfa Park men have produced two players that have gone onto represent Pontypridd RFC in a handful of matches – props Curtis Hicks and Nathan Trevett.
Ponty Youth and St Albans Youth will be a bit more familiar with each other having recently played each other in the Sardis 7s Youth Cup final last Friday 26th July – Pontypridd triumphed that evening.

This Friday 2nd August we will welcome a Ponty legend back to Sardis Road when Dafydd Lockyer’s Abercwmboi RFC come to town, kick-off will be 7:30pm.
The following Saturday 10th August we hit the road to picturesque West Wales to play Tenby United RFC. The match at Heywood Lane will kick-off at 2:00pm and the reason for the slightly earlier than usual start is an exciting one – the afternoon will be a double-header with Ponty Youth playing Tenby Youth straight after the conclusion of the senior match. The Youth match will kick-off at 4:00pm.
Saturday 17th August sees the Valley Commandos return to Sardis Road for an Anglo-Welsh clash against Cinderford RFC, kick-off at 3:00pm. Last season the two clubs locked horns in pre-season in the Forest of Dean and it was Ponty that edged a points fest by 40-34 – let’s hope for similar entertainment later this month. On top of the rugby action during this particular afternoon, there will also be a supporters Meet The Players BBQ Event at the ground. We are also hoping to bring you more news for this day – watch this space.
The following Saturday 24th August Ponty will face old foes Cardiff RFC at Sardis Road. The only thing ‘friendly’ about this fixture will be its name on paper as the two old rivals ramp up the intensity in their preparations ahead of their respective competitive league campaigns in the proceeding weeks.
