The problem in just listing signings is the total lack of context (as you said). You could say we signed Morley as a prop and then we signed Latu as a prop, which is true but is not a fair comparison.
It's ALL about context and expectation I had no expectation as far as Latu was concerned and for whatever reason he duly delivered. If you look at Goodwin, Hiku, Mamo and Pomeroy I think that they all contributed in a different way and to some degree I'd stick them in the successful set of my Fitzpatrick Venn diagram.
