Interesting Blog's have been written about specific retention of certain juniors as it entails some of the most important decisions that a club can make going forward.The new regime which has come into effect under Brad Arthur is showing immediate returns by the fact that our 20's are in the GF.The first thing to note is that young players are handled correctly and effectively and fairly. We cannot keep everyone and yes we may miss a superstar. The quality of our juniors will always have this situation.In aknowledging Twal leaving mid last season, it allowed the facilitation of Moses coming (also a junior). As it stands Twal probably woukld not make our starting 17 next year. Given the opportunity afforded we may have to buy him back in 3 or 4 years if he develops at some excelerated rate that has been afforded to him by being blooded by Wests. Ce la vie.With some of our very recognised juniors I would like to see them on some sort of programme with an English club, an expensive and potentially volatile situation as they will be seen by every NRL team with a view to gazumping us. Notwithstanding this is a great opportunity.Our junior base comes with a great deal of responsibility the key people recognising this at every level is paramount and nearly as important as the actual first grade squad. The feedback that is coming through suggests we now have the right people and approach whereas previously we failed as miserably here as everywhere else.Finally the recruitment of experienced (very) is still tantamount in the FG squad as it only when we can get a tried and true backbone of our own experienced players that we can fullfill the potential of our juniors.We learnt a massive lesson with this after the 86 premiership by thinking our juniors will forever carry the can....this mistake cannot be made again.....a blend is always required.Our ongoing maturation as a NRL team will show this through in the next 3/5 years and long after this.Much to the disgust of many of our impatient supporters a great deal of planning continues to be required, I would happy give up a short term premiership win to achieve a very long term development of quality.That said their is no need to give anything up we need to get one step closer next year (a difficult task without recruiting more experience) and then with a climatisation for finals football full our right as the powerhouse we can be.Repeat, we seem to have the right people in place to achieve this, we also need to be patient because at this point we do not know who we have in our sights for next year. We need to trust BA and his staff in this respect.See More
