Alumna Blaise Metreweli appointed Chief of MI6
Cambridge University Boat Club extends its warm congratulations to alumna Blaise Metreweli on her appointment as Chief of MI6 — the first woman to hold the role in its 116-year history.
Metreweli rowed in the winning 1997 Women’s Blue Boat and later represented Cambridge in the 2024 and 2025 Women’s Veterans’ Boat Race (pictured above).
Outgoing Chief Sir Richard Moore, speaking to the BBC, described Blaise as “a highly accomplished intelligence officer and leader, and one of our foremost thinkers on technology.”
Her appointment marks a significant moment in MI6’s history and reflects the growing representation of women in leadership roles.
