2025 marks fifty years since Cambridge beat the 1975 Oxford Blue Boat to win bronze on the Siene in Paris
Following their triumph in the 1975 Boat Race, a scratch Cambridge crew—featuring three substitutes—embarked on an unforgettable journey to Paris for the Sur la Seine à Paris regatta, rowing a similar distance to the full Boat Race course. Andrew Powell, who rowed in the 4-seat, recalls:
“Our crew rowed down the full 1975 Oxford Blue Boat, going on to win the bronze medal, presented by Princess Grace.”
Exactly fifty years later to the day, Andrew returned to the Seine, retracing the course from Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower aboard a Bateaux Parisiens lunch cruise, reliving the remarkable race on behalf of his crew.
