CUBC races in Florence

0 3

Recently, a group of athletes from the Club’s Openweight and Lightweight Men’s and Women’s squads represented Cambridge in the San Giovanni Trophy , a series of 500m races on the Arno River in Florence. The races finished under the Ponte Vecchio, with heats held in the afternoon and the final under lights as part of the opening festivitiies of the commencement of the 2024 Tour de France.

Racing against crews from Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Slovenia and in the shell rowed by Team NZ in the Men’s 8 at the Tokyo Olympic Games, Cambridge took on a German crew in their heat, with the Germans going straight to the semi finals and Cambridge to the repechages.

The event was won by VK Bled of Slovenia from the Italian team. We would like to thank the organising committee and Filippi for their support in attending the regatta and their unstinting support and hospitality.
