AAC's New Grant For BIPOC and LGBTQ+ Climbers Accepting Applications NOW!

The American Alpine Club (AAC) is excited to announce the Catalyst Grant is now accepting applications. The Catalyst Grant exists to break down barriers and ensure that all people have access to resources to help them pursue their climbing goals.

The Catalyst Grant will award $23,000 to individuals and teams who struggle with access to climbing resources and who identify with an underrepresented group. Individuals will be awarded up to $1,000 and teams will be awarded up to $1,500. The application period will open on April 15, 2021. The final day to apply will be May 31, 2021. The AAC will announce winners in June 2021. Applicants may apply online at americanalpineclub.org/catalyst-grant.

While the AAC has always encouraged all people to apply for our grants, the Catalyst Grant is specifically dedicated to supporting the dreams of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals who face barriers in accessing the climbing community. The grant is also intended to support adaptive athletes and people with both seen and unseen disabilities.

The Catalyst Grant looks to inspire, promote, and celebrate diversity and inclusion within the climbing community. This grant supports all climbing disciplines including bouldering, sport, trad, alpine, mountain running, ski mountaineering, peak bagging, or any other climbing endeavor.

The AAC has the resources and the reach to help remove barriers to all forms of climbing for teams across the country. By celebrating our differences while also exploring our common interests, we broaden our perspectives, strengthen our relationships, and grow our entire climbing community.
