40 British Judoka to Compete at Casablanca African Open & Junior/Cadet Cups
Three British squads will compete in Morocco this weekend (23–25 January 2025) at the Casablanca African Open, Casablanca Junior African Cup, and the Casablanca Cadet African Cup.
The first event of the weekend will be the Casablanca Junior African Cup, where six British judoka will compete among a field of 202 athletes.
In the -60kg division, David Gheorghiu (Nippon JC) and Laurence Hill (Dragons Academy) will both represent Great Britain, while Peter Davies (Ealing JC) is the sole British entry in the -81kg category.
The British women are well represented, with Lucy Robinson (Kin Ryu JC) competing at -52kg, Aleksandra Dudko (Ealing JC) entering the -63kg category, and Paige Keane (Dragons Academy) completing the junior line-up in the -70kg division.
The second event on the schedule is the Casablanca Cadet African Cup, where Great Britain will be represented by just two judoka.
Muhammad Talhah Syed (Ealing JC) will compete in the -55kg category, while Aleksandra Dudko (Ealing JC) is set to contest the -63kg division once again.
The final event of the weekend is the Casablanca African Open, which will see an exceptional British contingent of 37 judoka take to the tatami.
In the -60kg category, Evan Price (Craig Ewers Academy), Laurence Hill (Dragons Academy), Ross Dempsey (Clyde JC), David Gheorghiu (Nippon JC), and Nordine Adrif (Garioch Judo) will all represent Great Britain, while Joshua Bell (Bishops Stortford JK), Gregg Varey (Team Bath JC), Neil MacDonald (Judo Scotland), and Aiden Moffat (Tayside JC) are entered at -66kg.
Cameron Charles (Camberley JC) and Ben Moore (Bradley Stoke JC) will contest the -73kg division, before a particularly competitive -81kg category featuring Harrison Evans (Judo Swansea), Peter Davies (Ealing JC), Luke Davies (Ealing JC), Kylan Aylward (Dragons Academy), Andrew Ross (Clyde Judo), Benjamin Fox Kennedy (Camberley JC), and Daniel Pacitti (Jidel Judo 93).
The -90kg division will see Ioan Carter-Jones (Imperial Judo), Asher Price (Pinewood JC), Corey O’Neal Narcis (Ealing JC), George Brown (Camberley JC), Cameron Reid-Thomas (Camberley JC), and Kenneth Harris (Royal Navy Judo) in action, with the men’s line-up concluding in the +100kg category as Joshua Whitehouse (Judo Swansea), Daniel Ede (Westcroft JC), and Andrew McWatt (Garioch Judo) compete.
On the women’s side, Ashleigh Barnikel (Bradley Stoke JC) is the sole British entry in the -48kg division. Madeleine Birri (Ealing JC) and Tomi Imrie (Jidel Judo 93) will compete at -57kg, while Sophie Wood (Sportif), Sunny Doig (Just Judo Yoshin), and Millie Bayliss (Bradley Stoke JC) form a strong trio in the -63kg category.
The squad is rounded out in the -70kg division by Rachael Hawkes (Camberley JC), Hazel Taylor (Edinburgh Judo), Paige Keane (Dragons Academy), and Holly Devall (Dragons Academy).
