Subject: Judo Alberta 2026 CWG Summer Program Funding / Selection

Canada Winter Games Athletes Funding:

  1. Montreal Tour Funding: $400.00 to $550.00 TBF x 14 athletes; Approx. event cost $1,200.00 to $1,400.00
  2. Sask Camp Funding: $150.00 to $200.00 TBF x 14; athletes; Approx. event cost $400.00
  3. Hokkaido, Japan: Paid by the Government of Alberta event cost $0.00

 

Athletes selected for the Hokkaido, Japan trip will be asked to participate in the Montreal Tour and the Judo Saskatchewan Camp. (At minimum 1 of the 2 camps with the Montreal Tour being the priority)

 

Canada Winter Games Self-Funded Athletes Montreal Tour:

Minimum requirements for self-funded athletes for Montreal Tour: U16 Gold medalist at Canadian Tour Events / Podium U16 Open Nationals OR U18 Podium in the 2025/2026 Canadian Tour Events/Season/2026 Open National. (Deadline for Self-Funding May 18, 2026)

 

Note: There is no self-funding for the Hokkaido trip, and no parents are allowed to travel with the team or participate in the team activities. Further details will be shared at the time of selection.  

 

Funding/Selection Protocol: Judo Alberta use the below chart to identify the top 7 male and top 7 female athletes across all weight divisions. It is possible to have multiple athletes from the same weight division selected. Funding will go to the next person inline if athletes turns-down their selection.

Rules for Scoring Points

 

  • Athletes must win 1 match to receive points in advanced U18 / U16 divisions
  • Divisions with no athletes will be credited 50% 1st place points; if they enter a higher weight division, they will be credited with 100% of the points if they win a medal

 

IMPORTANT: If there is a tie in points between two athletes in the ranking list the Judo Alberta Coach Committee will look at each athlete’s results and the best result of the season will be used to break the tie.

 

IMPORTANT: IF A CANADA WINTER GAMES ATHLETE (2009-2012) wins a medal in the 2026 Senior Open Nationals they will be moved to the top of the ranking list for the Judo Alberta 2026 CWG Summer Program Funding / Selection.

 

RANKING/POINTS/SELECTION WILL BE FINALIZED FOLLOWING THE 2026 OPEN NATIONALS, CALGARY, ALBERTA – MONDAY MAY 18, 2026.

 

SELECTED ATHLETES WILL NEED TO ATTEND THE NATIONAL TRAINING CAMP FOLLOWING THE OPEN NATIONALS FOR INFORMATION/PLANNING MEETING REGARDING THE TRIP TO HOKKAIDO. THIS WILL BE A MANDATORY MEETING.
