Four Medals for GB Squads in Hong Kong and Thessaloniki

0 3

Great Britain’s emerging judo talent delivered a strong series of performances over the weekend, with athletes reaching podiums and securing career-best results at both the Hong Kong Asian Open and the Thessaloniki Cadet European Cup.

Hong Kong Asian Open

The –73kg category proved especially successful for GB in China, with Oliver Short (Judo Scotland) producing an excellent run to claim silver. He was joined on the podium by Cameron Charles (Camberley JC), who earned a well-deserved bronze medal, marking an impressive showing for both athletes in a highly competitive field.

In the –57kg division, Madeleine Birri (Ealing JC) returned to the podium with an outstanding bronze. She delivered a dominant performance in her final contest, securing the medal with authority.

Ayoub Dafallah (Palavani) recorded his best result of the year in the –60kg category, finishing 5th after narrowly missing out on a place in the medal rounds.

There was further promise in the –90kg division, where Corey O’Neal Narcis (Ealing JC) put together an impressive run from the round of 16 all the way to the bronze medal match. Although he just missed out on a podium finish, he claimed a strong 5th place after a highly competitive day.

Thessaloniki Cadet European Cup

Gheorghe Tataru (Palavani) delivered GB’s standout performance with a superb bronze medal in the –90kg category. Winning five contests on the day, he earned a thoroughly deserved spot on the medal rostrum.

Deborah O’Neal (Ealing JC) continued her promising rise by securing an impressive 5th place in only her second international tournament, alongside her first wins at this level, marking an important milestone in her development.

Robyn Davies (Ealing JC) fought strongly across five contests. Though she missed out on a place in the medal fights after a repechage defeat, she gained valuable experience and recorded her first wins on the European Cup stage.
