Holly Devall and Rory Tyrrell Ready for U23 European Judo Championships

This weekend, two British judoka will take on Europe’s best at the U23 European Judo Championships in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova.

Holly Devall (Dragons Academy) will compete in the -70kg category, looking to build on an impressive season as she steps up to the U23 level. After claiming two bronze medals and a fifth-place finish in 2024, Devall aims to continue her strong momentum on the European stage.

Her podium finishes came at the Malaga Senior European Open Cup and the Tunis African Open, alongside a fifth-place result at the Riga Senior European Cup — an impressive record from just five competitions this season. Devall’s performances have demonstrated both consistency and progression, marking her as one to watch in Chisinau.

The Dragons Academy judoka will compete on Saturday, 1 November, facing Rebeka Soczo (HUN) in the Round of 32.

Rory Tyrrell (Camberley JC) will be competing in the -81kg category after a standout year on the international circuit. Tyrrell recently placed 5th at the Prague European Open, narrowly missing a podium finish following a strong performance. Earlier in the year, he secured seventh-place finishes at both the Riga Senior European Cup and the La Nucia European Open.

His best result of the season came at the Taipei Asian Open, where he claimed a silver medal, his highest international placing to date.

Tyrrell will also compete on Saturday, 1 November, opening his campaign against Maksimiljan Uckuronis (LTU) in the Round of 32.
