British Judo Safeguarding Conferences Return for 2025
British Judo is proud to announce its 2025 Safeguarding Conferences, taking place this October, aligning once again with CPSU’s Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Week (6–10 October) and Safeguarding Adults Week (17–21 November).
This year’s theme — “Celebrating BJA’s Safeguarding Approach: Child to Adulthood” — will spotlight our Four Nation collaboration and the shared commitment to safeguarding everyone in the sport, from grassroots juniors to lifelong participants.
The conferences will be hosted by Andrew Bowly (Head of Inclusion, Safeguarding & Wellbeing) and Marina Dain (Safeguarding Manager) from the British Judo Association, bringing together key voices from across the sector.
The first of our 2025 safeguarding conferences will take place on Monday 28th October (7:00–9:00 PM) and is dedicated exclusively to British Judo Club Welfare Officers. This focused evening session will provide CWOs with essential updates and practical guidance on safeguarding children and adults within clubs. Highlights include a presentation from the CPSU on their Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport campaign, an Ann Craft Trust session introducing the fundamentals of adult safeguarding, an update on BJA’s Trauma-Informed Coaching Practice, and insights from the Sport Welfare Officer Network on how they are supporting judo clubs nationwide.

The second event will take place on Wednesday 30th October (10:00 AM–3:00 PM) and is aimed at a wider audience of organisations and stakeholders, both within and beyond the sport of judo. This full-day online conference will celebrate British Judo’s Four Nation approach to safeguarding, explore how organisations can listen to the voice of children and young people, and examine how to create safer sporting cultures. Attendees will hear from national partners including the CPSU, Ann Craft Trust, and Active Partnerships, alongside BJA’s own safeguarding team, with opportunities to share ideas and strengthen collaboration across the sector.
