British Judo and Northern Ireland Judo Collaborate on Coach Revalidation in Coleraine

0 13

On the 14th and 15th of June, British Judo partnered with Northern Ireland Judo to deliver a series of coach revalidation modules in Coleraine, aimed at supporting coaches in renewing their qualifications and understanding the forthcoming 2025 IJF rule updates.

British Judo’s National Technical and Education Coordinator, Keith Merrick, joined forces with Northern Ireland’s Russell Brown and Stephen Sims to lead the sessions. Saturday focused on the 2025 contest rules, while Sunday covered Technical Modules 1 and 2, supporting coaches preparing for grading assessments.

Keith praised the high standard demonstrated by the coaches across the weekend, noting their strong preparation in both the contest rules and technical elements of judo.

These sessions are built on the successful referee development modules delivered earlier in June 2024, part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the officiating team in Northern Ireland.

Russell Brown highlighted plans to continue expanding technical education opportunities for both coaches and referees in the region.

Keith also expressed his thanks to Russell and Stephen for their valued support in delivering the modules.
