British Cadets Set for European Championships Challenge
With the 2025 Cadet European Championships just two days away, excitement is building as a strong British squad gears up for action in Skopje, North Macedonia, from 26–29 June.
After a highly competitive selection process across domestic and international events, a promising group of judoka from across the Home Nations has been confirmed to represent Great Britain. This team highlights the strength, depth, and potential of the next generation of British judo.
Sara Coni, competing in the -44kg category and representing Camberley Judo Club, has been in superb form this year. A consistent performer at a national level, she’s fresh off a string of podium finishes, including a gold medal in Genova, and heads to Skopje as one of the team’s in-form athletes. Joining her in the -44kg category is Maisie Broadley from Wirral Judo Club. Known for her sharp tactical awareness, Maisie will make her Cadet European debut and is eager to test herself on the biggest stage of her career so far.
In the -48kg category, Taylor Chrisp of Blyth Judo Michi brings an aggressive, determined style. Now in her second year at Cadet level, she’ll be hoping to build on the experience gained from last year’s event. Alongside her is Lexi Buchanan, one of Scotland’s brightest prospects from Sportif Judo. Lexi is a regular podium finisher domestically and will be aiming to convert that success to the international arena.
Lucy Robinson, representing Kin Ryu Judo Club, will compete in the -52kg category. With medals in Montreal and Riga already under her belt, Lucy is eyeing that elusive gold to complete her Cadet collection. In the -57kg category, Maisie Shattock from Bacup Judo Club brings discipline, resilience, and impressive groundwork, marking her as a potential surprise package in Skopje.
Scotland’s Coen Gilbert, another standout from Sportif Judo, enters the -50kg category off the back of strong performances in Porec and Samorin, where he secured two medals. In the -60kg category, David Gheorghiu of Nippon Club London is set to make his Cadet European debut. Known for his flair and intensity, he’s aiming to announce himself on the European stage. Also competing at -60kg is Jack Milligan from Wirral Judo Club, a technical and intelligent competitor who continues to grow in confidence and results.
Although not travelling to Skopje, Kin Ryu’s Samuel Tang has been named reserve in the -60kg division, reflecting his steady development and the club’s impressive contribution to this year’s squad.
In the -66kg category, Camberley’s Viktor Andriichuik brings explosive throws and plenty of European experience, while Vasiliy Menshykov from Garioch Judo Club has shown maturity and consistency this season, emerging as a serious contender in the division.
The -73kg lineup features two exciting fighters: Lenny Tancock of Bishops Stortford Judo Club, who has combined domestic consistency with international success including a silver medal in Porec, and Luka Gigilashvili of Palavani Judo Club, known for his high-impact, versatile style.
Rounding out the squad in the -90kg category is Peter Crawford, the third Kin Ryu representative. A strong and composed judoka, Peter is ready to make his mark in his European debut.
As the countdown to Skopje continues, we wish the entire team the very best as they take on Europe’s best and fly the flag for Great Britain.
