Two international judo competitions are on the agenda this weekend, as a 16-strong squad travels to Spain for the Benidorm European Open, while a lone competitor heads to Poland for the Bielsko-Biała Millennium Team Cadet European Cup.
Kicking off our campaign in Benidorm are the -66kg category athletes, with four competitors taking to the tatami: Charlie Young (Ryecroft JC), Michael Fryer (Rush Judo), Lewis Fryer (Rush Judo), and Finlay Allan (Camberley).
In the -73kg division, Ethan Nairne (Bradley Stoke) and Irakli Goginashvili (Palavani) are set to compete, while Rory Tyrrell (Camberley) will fly the flag solo in the -81kg category.
Max Gregory (Drake JC) will be in action in the -100kg category.
Rounding out the men’s entries are Wesley Greenidge (Enfield JC) and Joshua Whitehouse (Judo Swansea), who will compete in the +100kg category.
The women’s team gets underway with four judoka competing in the -48kg category, all aiming for podium places in a strong field: Summer Shaw (Camberley), Sidney Tancock (Bishops Stortford), Ashleigh Barnikel (Neyland JC), and Leah Hasler (Newbury JC).
Lanina Solley (Camberley JC) will represent in the -57kg category, while Emma Reid (Redbridge) rounds off the squad as she takes to the mat in the -78kg division.
Best of luck to all our athletes competing in Benidorm this weekend!
Turning to Bielsko-Biała, a lone British judoka will represent the nation at the Millennium Team Cadet European Cup.
