British Squads Gearing Up for Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam and Gori Senior European Cup
This weekend, two small squads will compete at the Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam and the Gori Senior European Cup.
Following a strong showing in Dushanbe, we hope to carry that momentum into a second consecutive Grand Slam.
Kicking off the squad in Kazakhstan, Ethan Nairne (Bradley Stoke) returns to action for the first time in a month. He last placed 7th at the Dubrovnik Senior European Cup and is aiming to put himself on the podium in the -73kg category.
Max Gregory (Drake Judo Club) will line up in the -100kg division. He’s had a strong year so far, claiming bronze in Podgorica and two 5th-place finishes in Warsaw and Dubrovnik. He also recently made his debut at the Senior European Championships.
Our final competitor in Astana is Tatum Keen (Bradley Stoke), who will take to the tatami in the -52kg category. Keen has had a strong start to 2025, securing a silver medal at the Warsaw European Open and placing 7th at the Dushanbe Grand Slam last weekend. All of this has come while balancing the demands of finishing her university degree. A consistent performer, she recently made her debut at the Senior European Championships and will be aiming for another strong showing this week.
Next, we head to Georgia, where just one fighter will compete at the Gori Senior European Cup.
In the -66kg division is Lewis Fryer (Rush Judo), who is eager to earn his first senior medal after a successful junior career. Fryer stepped up to the senior ranks at the beginning of 2025 and is gradually settling into the new landscape, making the most of every opportunity and gaining valuable experience along the way.
