Police Sport UK (PSUK) Judo successfully hosted its Annual Technical Course at the Welsh Centre of Sport on Friday, March 21st, and Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, in collaboration with the Welsh Judo Association.
The weekend kicked off with a high-energy randori session on Friday evening, drawing over 70 senior judoka who immersed themselves in intense, dynamic sparring.
Saturday’s activities began with the coach revalidation and technical course, led by Guest Coach Gemma Howell. More than 100 senior judoka participated in the four-hour session, with 63 coaches revalidating their credentials.
This session was tailored to help coaches enhance their techniques and deepen their knowledge, ensuring they are fully equipped to deliver top-tier training at their clubs.
Gemma Howell’s session was a standout for its exceptional quality. She skillfully blended fun, interactive drills with advanced competitive techniques, creating an environment that was both engaging and highly educational.
Her extensive experience at the highest levels of judo provided invaluable insights, particularly for the coaches, who left with a wealth of new strategies and ideas to bring back to their clubs.
The afternoon shifted to the PSUK Dan grading session, where 40 judoka showcased their skills in pursuit of promotion points. The session demonstrated a wide range of abilities, from lower to advanced levels, including those aiming for ranks up to 5th Dan. This marked the conclusion of a busy, rewarding, and highly successful weekend for everyone involved.
