Reid rounds off a tough Olympic Games for Team GB

Emma Reid was the final Team GB judoka in action in Paris on the penultimate day of individual action at the Champ de Mars arena.

Reid faced a tough first round against Hyunji Yoon (KOR), an athlete ranked just four places behind her in the world rankings.

Reid picked up two early shidos before Yoon picked up one of her own before the contest entered Golden Score. Reid was awarded a decisive third shido in the opening exchange, resulting in her disqualification.

Speaking after the contest, Reid said: “I knew I had to keep on the attacks to stop that happening (the shidos) as that happened last time we fought.

“She is a good player, I was trying to get my grips, but she was just that bit better today and was getting the attacks in before me.

“I had a good game plan, I just didn’t execute it as well as I could. It is a frustrating way to lose, especially when I feel like I could give a lot more.”

The result brings to an end a disappointing Paris Olympic Games for GB Judo.

Speaking about the team preparations, Reid commented: “We all had a good preparation, both in Walsall at the National Training Centre and a training camp (in Spain).

“It is tough for a few of us coming to our first Games and being unseeded. We all felt good coming into it, but anything can happen on the day.”
