Yeats-Brown Exits in Second Round

0 3

It was another tough day for Team GB judoka at the Champ de Mars arena as Jemima Yeats-Brown exited the Olympic judo competition in the second round.

Yeats-Brown who was making her Olympic debut in Paris overcame Aina-Laura Rasoanaivo-Razafy (MAD) in the opening round of the -70kg category; a waza-ari score in the opening minute was enough to see her progress.

In the second round, Yeats-Brown faced defending Olympic silver medallist and current world number 3 Michaela Polleres (AUT).

Yeats-Brown dominated much of the contest but was unable to register a score. In the closing stages of the contest both judoka were awarded a second shido, but with no score on the board, the fight entered Golden Score.

Yeats-Brown continued to dominate and came close to registering a score with a foot sweep, but in the following exchange when attempting a throw, she was pinned in an osaekomi hold down. Yeats-Brown escaped the first attempt of a pin by Polleres, but was unable to escape the second attempt by the Austrian judoka.

Speaking after the competition, Yeats-Brown said: “I felt really good and in that contest (Polleres) I just needed to keep going as I the win was there.

“I kept going with the attacks, but she just caught me and I was unable to get out.

“I have had to fight so hard to be here and I am proud to be at the Olympic Games despite all the hardships, but I can’t help but feel there was more there.”
