Cadet European Championships Roundup

Today (Saturday) saw the European Cadet Championships draw to a close following three days of action.

Thirteen GB judoka were in action with Eva Ewing securing a 5^th place finish on the opening day in the -44kg category before Zhaklin Satari finished 7^th in the -57kg category on day two.

Ewing had an opening round bye before defeating Narmin Mammadli (AZE) in round two before a quarter-final defeat to eventual silver medallist Afrida Puente Lopez (ESP). Ewing progressed to the repechage where she defeated Iana Prituleac (MDA) and Mare Sponselee (NED) to secure her place in the bronze medal contest, but defeat to Natalija Prolic (SRB) saw the Scottish judoka finish in 5^th.

Satari competed on day two and entered the competition unseeded. Satari defeated Emma-Karolii Konnapere (EST) in the opening round before Tatiana Dutca (MDA) and Zohar Shmuel (ISR) to progress to the quarter-finals. Defeat to Aleksandra Shestopalova (AIN) progressed Satari to the repechage where she defeated Ugne Skeryte (LTU) before defeat to Eileen Probest (SUI).

Taylor Chrisp was in action on the opening day. The -48kg judoka had an opening round bye before defeating Mariami Tumanishvili (GEO) but was eliminated in the third round by Viktoria Kiss (HUN). Also in action on the opening day were Evan Anderson and Coen Gilbert both competed in the -50kg category but both were defeated in their opening round contests.

Kate Chisholm competed in the -52kg category on day two. The Judo Sensi London judoka defeated Vusala Hajiyeva (AZE) in the opening round before defeat to bronze medallist Clarisse Carillon (FRA). Elsewhere on day two, Luka Gigilashvili was defeated by Mustafa-Berat Simsek (TUK) in round two after an opening round bye whilst Thomas Deniz, also competing in the -66kg category, was eliminated in the opening round by Matsefi Valasevich (AIN). There were also opening contest defeats for Jack Macleod and Lenny Tancock in the -73kg category.

On the final day Kevin Gordon narrowly missed out on a 7^th place finish. The Scottish judoka had an opening round bye before defeating Jan Libuda (GER) before defeat to Tomass Manfelds (LAT). In the repechage, Gordon defeated Gabriel Lipic (SLO) before defeat to Sieb Griede (NED). Also competing in the -90kg category was George Riley who defeated Jeremy Valentin (LUX) in round two, following an opening round bye, before defeat to Aleksander Kowalczyk (POL). In the -70kg category, Tara Nel Allan exited the competition in the opening round.
