Recruitment for BJA Conduct and Complaints Commission Members

British Judo is seeking to appoint three new members to its Conduct and Complaints Commission. This is an exciting opportunity to join an experienced panel committed to upholding high standards of conduct within the British Judo Association’s membership.

The Role of the Commission

The Commission addresses general disciplinary issues within the Association. Its primary function is to investigate allegations of misconduct to determine whether any member has failed to maintain the values and standards of conduct expected, and to take appropriate disciplinary action where any such misconduct has been proven.

Please note: Safeguarding, DBS, employment and anti-doping matters are subject to separate disciplinary arrangements.

Key Responsibilities/Role

As a member you may be asked to:

• carry out an investigation, gathering evidence and statements, then preparing a full report for the Commission
• determine, alongside other Commission members, whether allegations are proven and any resulting sanction
• attempt issue resolution/mediation between individuals in appropriate cases.
• participate in hearings (virtually or in person), either as a Commission member, an investigator for the Commission, or as required for any subsequent appeal hearings.

The role is voluntary and unpaid. All reasonable expenses, including travel, are payable.

Eligibility

Applications are open to both BJA members and non-members with relevant skills.

Personal Attributes and Skills

Desirable:

• Experience in managing disciplinary or conduct matters.
• Background in legal, policing, arbitration, mediation or related fields.
• Knowledge of judo or experience in a sports environment.

Essential:

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders.
• Able to handle sensitive and contentious issues with care and professionalism.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Access to a computer and proficiency in the use of IT, messaging, and video conferencing applications.

Interview Process

Applicants will need to be available for a video interview in the week commencing Monday 22 July 2024.  All applicants will be notified of the decisions of the recruitment panel by the 5 August. Final appointment is subject to Board approval.
