GB judoka set for IBSA World Championships

The first IBSA World Championships in the Paris Qualification period takes place in Baku, Azerbaijan, this week.

A strong GB Judo team have travelled to Baku with 5 GB judoka in action across the two-day competition, starting tomorrow.

Tuesday

Connah Anders (Coach: Fitzroy Davies; Club: Hardy Spicer 83) will compete in the J1 -73kg category on the opening day. Anders, will be making his World Championship after recently impressing at the European Championships, where he finished 5th.

Wednesday

Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Champion, Chris Skelley (Haltemprice JC) competes in his first major championships following that magical day in Tokyo. Skelley recently claimed gold at the IBSA Sao Paulo Grand Prix following a bronze medal at the IBSA Nur-Sultan Grand Prix, which currently sees him ranked 3rd in the world.

Following his 5th place finish at the European Championships earlier this year Evan Molloy (Mark Burbridge; Devizes JC) competes in the J2 -90kg. Molloy won bronze at the IBSA Antalya Grand Prix earlier this year, a result that has propelled him to 3rd on the world ranking list.

Kirsten Taylor (David Scobie; Tayside JC) claimed silver at the IBSA Nur-Sultan Grand Prix earlier this year before finishing 4th at the European Championships. The J2 +70kg fighter is currently ranked number 3 in the world rankings.

Daniel Powell makes a welcome return to the team following a brief period with British Rowing following the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Competing in the J1 -90kg the two-time Paralympian competes at his second World Championships.

Preliminary Round action will start at 06:00am on Tuesday and 07:00am Wednesday.

Final Block will start at 13:00 on both days.
