Athlete Transition Programme Kicks Off!

0 9

Saturday saw the first of our transition mentoring programme training days for our exciting first cohort of mentors.

We have appointed nine trainee mentors for the initial intake and all were in attendance with different levels of experience both on and off the judo mat and spread across the UK.

The mentors enjoyed learning more about listening and communication skills, the art of open questioning, how to provide support to judoka during transition and also more about the support that is out there. British Judo have launched a web page dedicated to supporting fighters through this phase – click here to visit.

The training was delivered by 2004 Athens Paralympic Silver medallist Ian Rose, who is an experienced Resilience and Life Coach, and NW Area Chairman Chris Milward, who has spent most of his working career supporting others in social care.

Programme Lead Sami Smithson said: “It was an exciting and proud day to see such high calibre and dedicated people from our judo community volunteer their time to support other members of our judo family”.

We are excited to announce who has joined the mentoring programme, which we will announce next week!

The mentors will now spend some time honing their skills and then will be ready to support mentees shortly.

If you feel you would benefit from having a mentor from our judo community you can apply here: https://www.britishjudo.org.uk/athlete-transition-mentor-request-application-form/
