Stewart narrowly misses bronze on final day at the Zagreb Grand Prix

On the third and final days competition at the Zagreb Grand Prix in Croatia, Max Stewart (-90kg) was the stand out British performer, narrowly missing out on a medal, finishing 5th.

Stewart defeated Mohamed Hashim Hayari (JOR), world number 6 and former European Champion, Aleksandar Kukolj (SRB) and John Jayne (USA) to set up a quarter-final match against world number 12, Noel Van T End (NED). Unfortunately, Stewart was defeated and progress to the Repechage where he defeated world number 4 and 2019 European Games bronze medallist, Mammadali Mehdiyev (AZE) in Golden Score to progress to the bronze medal match against world number two and former World Junior Champion, Krisztian Toth (HUN). In a closely contested match it was Toth who was able to score a waza-ari to take the bronze medal, meaning Stewart finished in 5th position.

Christopher Sherrington (+100kg) defeated Mircea Croitoru (ROU) in the opening round before being defeated by world number 13 and former World Championship bronze medallist, Sungmin Kim (KOR) in round two.

Following a bye in the opening round, Frazer Chamberlain (-90kg) was defeated by Marcus Numan (SWE).

Natalie Powell (-78kg) defeated Unelle Snyman (RSA) in the opening round before losing out to Hohhot Grand Prix gold medallist and former World Championship bronze medallist, Fanny-Estelle Posvite (FRA) in the second round.

Shelley Ludford (-78kg) won her opening match against Erdener-Od Batbayar (MGL) but was unfortunately defeated by world number 9 and 2018 World Championship bronze medallist, Marhinde Verkerk (NED) in the second round.

Sarah Adlington (+78kg) had a bye in the opening round and was defeated by 2018 European Junior Champion, Mercedesz Szigetvari (HUN) in the second round.
