Join us at our 2019 Engagement and Masterclass Roadshow!

Colin McIver 9th Dan (BJA Sport Director) and Joyce Heron 7th Dan (BJA Deputy Sport Director) would like you to join us at this ‘Engagement Workshops & Masterclasses’ seminar.

You will be provided with a carousal of opportunities to input into British Judo’s strategies for Development, Technical and Talent areas of the sport while learning from some fantastic guest coaches and coach educators. Your opinions matter to us, through working together over the weekend we endeavour to ensure that you have a positive experience while contributing to the BJA’s future vision.

Day 1 and Day 2

Dr Yoko Tanabe 7th Dan

British Judo are once again delighted that Yoko Tanabe can join us to share her vast judo experience. She developed her excellent judo skills at the Kodokan in Tokyo and is one of the most highly respected Judoka in Japan. During her competitive years she achieved 3 Olympic medals, 4 World Medals, 6 All-Japan Open weight titles and 7 All-Japan weight category titles. Don’t miss this chance to learn from the best and interact with Yoko over the weekend.

Day 1

Sophie Cox 5th Dan

Sophie has recently taken on the position of Lead Coach (interim) for the England Talent Development Programme where she is already making plans to enhance the athlete experience. Before embarking on her coaching career, Sophie achieved great success in the competitive field, representing GB Judo at 2 Olympic Games and winning two silver medals at the European Judo Championships (2004 – 2005). On the first day of the ‘Engagement Workshops & Masterclasses’, Sophie will provide the opportunity for coaches and other attendees to input into the England Talent Programme strategy for the next cycle as well as deliver a couple of Masterclasses.

Jason Parsons 3rd Dan

Jason is one of our England Talent Development Coaches who has recently taken on a full-time position within the programme. Since retiring as a National and International judo player he has ran his own successful school’s business delivering judo in the local area and been one of the main coaches at Devizes Judo Club. Currently Jason is also completing his BJA Level 4/Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Sport Coaching Practice at Sheffield Hallam University. On the first day of the ‘Engagement Workshops & Masterclasses’, Jason will work with Sophie to provide the opportunity for coaches and other attendees to input into the England Talent Programme strategy for the next cycle as well as deliver a couple of Masterclasses.

Day 2

Luke Preston 5th Dan

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that one of the countries high performance coaches Luke Preston has agreed to attend our weekend event. Over the years he coached a few Olympic, World and European medallist such as Karina Bryant and Ashley McKenzie while contributing to the success of many other athletes at Camberley Judo Club where he is lead coach. Known for his creativity, excellent tactics and commitment to all people he is responsible for, Luke is one of the most approachable and knowledgeable coaches in Britain at this level. During the sessions he will look at gripping and his methods of developing players from early stages through to high performance.

Sam Dunkley 4th Dan

Due to popular demand we have invited Sam Dunkley to deliver both on his technical judo knowledge and judo related strength and conditioning expertise. Sam is an extremely charismatic individual who has vast experience in delivering coach education both within and outside the sport, with a special focus on nutrition. As a competitor he was a GB International player who competed at the World Championship in Paris 2017. Sam will look at delivering mat based fun/challenging supplementary training as well as some of his excellent technical skills.
