Spruce Kings fall 5-2 to Powell River
The Prince George Spruce Kings never found their legs until the third period on Thursday night in Powell River, but a second comeback in six days wasn’t in the cards as they fell 5-2 to the Powell River Kings.
The Spruce Kings killed off an early powerplay in the first period, but late in the frame just moments after Prince George almost opening the scoring, Powell River would come back down and Josh Wiebe would beat Colin Reay to make it 1-0.
Ryan Wachtel would respond to start the second period off a pass from Ben Vreugdenhil as he beat Devin Peck, but Kamyl Chemrouk put Powell River back on top for good just over two minutes later.
Chemrouk scored his second of the night at 16:48 as Powell River took a 3-1 to the intermission.
In the third, the Powell River power play finally scored on their 5th attempt, as Michael Azzarone made it 4-1.
Prince George responded with the net empty as Ben Vreugdenhil deflected an Ozbej Rep point shot past Peck to make it 4-2.
Powell River’s Jeremiah Mundy sealed the game with an empty netter in the final minute.
These two teams will battle again Friday at Hap Parker Arena.
