Nanaimo Clippers Sign Minnesota Mr. Hockey Finalist Tate Swanson
NANAIMO, BC — March 11, 2026 — The Nanaimo Clippers are thrilled to announce the commitment of forward Tate Swanson for the 2026–27 season.
Swanson is a 2007-born forward from Hibbing, Minnesota. During his senior high school season, he was named a finalist for Minnesota’s prestigious Mr. Hockey Award and is regarded as one of the top high school players in the state. Swanson recorded 27 goals and 41 assists in 28 games, leading Chisholm High to the State Tournament semifinals. The recognition highlights his elite offensive ability and impact at the Minnesota high school level.
“Tate is an extremely talented player who will produce offense at our level right away,” said Clippers Head Coach and GM Colin Birkas. “Being a finalist for Mr. Hockey in Minnesota speaks to the type of player and competitor he is.”
Swanson is eager to join the Nanaimo Clippers next season.
“I chose to commit to the Nanaimo Clippers because of the program’s success and the coaching staff,” said Swanson. “The coaching staff showed a lot of interest in me, and I want to prove to them that their decision is the right one. Another reason I chose Nanaimo was the beautiful city that comes with the team. I can’t wait to get to the city and experience it firsthand.”
Clippers fans should be excited about a dynamic forward who combines elite skill with work ethic and competitiveness.
Welcome to Nanaimo, Tate.
