GROUP PLAY (Feb 11-15): The 12 countries play a round-robin within their respective groups, with three games per team. Teams earn three points for a regulation win, two points for overtime or shootout wins, one point for overtime or shootout losses, and zero points for regulation losses.

GROUP A: Canada, Czechia, France. Switzerland

GROUP B: Finland, Italy, Slovakia, Sweden

GROUP C: Denmark, Germany, Latvia, United States

QUALIFICATION ROUND (Feb. 17): Seedings 1 through 12 for the knockout stage are based on, in order, higher position within group, most points, greater goal differential, most goals for, and better 2020 IIHF World Ranking.

The top four teams receive byes to the quarterfinals. The qualification playoffs have No. 5 vs. No. 12, No. 6 vs. No. 11, No. 7 vs. No. 10, and No. 8 vs. No. 9.

QUARTERFINALS (Feb. 18): No. 1 vs. winner of 8/9; No. 2 vs. winner of 7/10; No. 3 vs. Winner of 6/11; No. 4 vs. Winner of 5/12.

SEMIFINALS – Feb. 20; BRONZE MEDAL GAME – Feb. 21; GOLD MEDAL GAME – Feb. 22.

OVERTIME FORMAT

Preliminary round – A five-minute 3-on-3 overtime. If no goal is scored, the teams will take part in a five-round shootout

Qualification playoffs, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, or Bronze Medal Game — A 10-minute 3-on-3 overtime will be played. If no goal is scored, the teams will play a five-round shootout.

Gold Medal Game — 20-minute overtime periods will be played – at 3-on-3 strength – until a goal is scored.
