Spruce Kings Explode in 3rd to Sweep Grizzlies Weekend

The Prince George Spruce Kings scored 4 goals in 4:53 of the third period to knock off the Victoria Grizzlies 7-3 on Saturday night at Kopar Memorial Arena.

Tai Ushio got the Drop the Gloves and Sock it to Em goal at 7:59 of the opening frame on the power play, as he scored on his second attempt of the puck in front of Spencer Michnik.

The Spruce Kings made it 2-0 just 1:06 later as Jackson Froysland deflected one from between the circles past Michnik off a Dracen Campbell wrist shot after Michael Denney pushed it back to the point.

The Grizzlies would respond with a goal at 16:38 of the opening period as Landen Ward tipped his third of the year up and over Ryder Green.

Levi Eiter tied the game at two at 4:09 of the second period on a 2 on 1 as he beat Green on the blocker side.

With less than five minutes to go in the second, Dominic Szczygiel slashed through the offensive zone and got the puck from Ben Vreugdenhil and beat Michnik on the backhand to make it 3-2.

The game would turn at the buzzer of the second period when Ward was assessed a 5-minute major for slashing after getting bumped by Evan Bellamy.

Once the Bellamy penalty ended, the Spruce Kings power play went to work as Ryan Wachtel scored his first goal since October 19th with a wicked wrist shot, followed up 1:09 later by Froysland’s second of the night as he deposited a loose puck pack Michnik for a 5-2 lead.

Spencer Masters scored bar down at 5:54 before Wachtel’s second of the night at 7:40 of the third to make it 7-2.

The Grizzlies got one from Landon Mackie to make it 7-3.

Prince George has now won four straight games, and move to 7-1-1 in their last nine games.

The Spruce Kings will be in Coquitlam on Friday night before facing the Langley Rivermen on Saturday night in Langley.
